Aveda Institute Portland, Hair, Beauty School

Instructor Danny often leads his class in a wellness called “Love Notes” He has his class pick someone they appreciate and they each write a little “love note” to let them know how much they mean to them. Danny says "It is best to be as sappy and corny as possible." Activities like these are just little ways to show your appreciation and your gratitude but they can change someone’s entire day- yours too!

Joe Ortis is a hair design graduate from 2011 and Allyson Williams, an Esthiology graduate from 2013. Both have worked at Dosha Salon Spa since their graduation and are proud members of the Dosha Creative Team. This past Monday they came together to work on a garden inspired editorial look for the creative team and the results are nothing short of stunning. Since their graduation they have been working hard behind the chair and in the spa but found they needed a more creative outlet. Last week AIP set out to give local families the opportunity to provide their kids with fresh, trendy haircuts just in time for the new school year,for free! At a time that can be very difficult for many families, erasers, notebooks, clothes and backpacks add up quickly leaving little if any budget for fresh cuts! The Aveda Institute Portland students performed over 500 free haircuts to local kids in only 4 days. There were a variety of families and kids of all ages visiting at both Portland and Vancouver campuses. A foster home brought in kids throughout the week and it was moments like this that affirmed what we set out to do!

Our recent graduation seemed to have a common theme among our student speakers– one thing that truly touched each of them during their time at AIP. Catwalk for Water. Each speaker mentioned how important this event was to them during their time here. It helped them reinforce why they chose Aveda to begin with. Because at Aveda we care for the world we live in. Seriously.

But it wasn't just about catwalk. Student speaker Rena Graham recalled how nervous she was to first start school at the age of 46. Nervous she wouldn't fit with girls half her age….nervous that she might not be “pretty” enough. In the end she realized she was pretty enough and young enough and that is was why she loved this industry– because she wants to spend her time...
