HOURS

How many hours can I earn?

We will stick to your normal scheduled hours of Full-time (35 hours on schedule below) or Part-time (22.5 hours on schedule below). You will need to be clocked in and out during your scheduled hours. Please keep in mind all attendance requirements are still in place (including Satisfactory Academic & Attendance Progress).

Depending on your schedule you will be responsible for starting and ending your learning session at these times:

  • Full time students will begin at 10am and stop at 6pm Tuesday through Saturday
  • Part time day students will begin at 10am and stop at 6:30pm Tuesday through Thursday
  • Part time night students will begin at 1pm and stop at 9:30pm Tuesday through Thursday

Can I get extra hours?

With this hours-based system, you will be able to earn extended hours! We will be offering extended hours between 10am-1pm and 6:30pm-9:30pm Tuesday through Thursday and 10am-6pm Friday and Saturday. To allow our team time to prepare for you in the morning, we will not be offering extended time from 9am-10am.

How do I clock in and out?

We are excited to let you know that we now have the ability for you to virtually clock in and out on via LearnAveda.net utilizing the Learn Aveda Session Tracking. This tool can be found on the front page of LearnAveda.net under featured content, in the module named "Learn Aveda Session Tracking".

Each day you will need to begin your learning session by clicking start in the module. A new tab will open confirming the start of your learning session.  You will then be able to get started with reading the web book, filling out show you knows, talking points, and taking learning challenges.  Basically, the system will keep track of your time. At the end of your learning day, you will go back to that module and click to end your learning session. You must clock in and OUT to recieve hours for your day, since this is the only form of attendance we have.

Please note:

  1. If your session times out or you are on a Ring Central Meeting or reading your book you will not be clocked out as long as you return to Learn Aveda and start engaging again.
  2. You will not need to clock in and out for your hour lunch break as we will take care of that for you automatically.
  3. Please remember, the way for you to receive your hours is through this time tracking system. Instructors will periodically engage with you and we must receive a response back within an hour in order for us to log the hours for you.

How can I check my hours?

We are currently working on a way to post hours to Learn Aveda. We will update you as soon as it is ready.

Modules and Learning Paths

What Learning Path am I working off of?

Go to your class selector and click the Online Learning path. This has a breakout of modules to go through for each different phase, including Salon Life. You will want to start with the phase you are going into next, and if you are unsure of what that is, it is also listed in your class selector next to the Online Learning path. Make sure you are using the ONLINE class, this one is approved for Online Learning!

How many modules should I complete per day/ how long does each module take?

Each module has a reccomended time between 2-8 hours, but you should average out to complete about 2 modules per day. We have created a sheet for you to track your progress and see the reccomended time for each module. It is located on the home page of Learn Aveda under Featured Content, called "Getting Started with Online Theory for Students". Download the spreadsheet and save it in your Acrobat Reader to check-off once you have completed each part of the module.

Please note, the module timeframe gives you time to complete each part of the module. Please ensure you are doing the following for each module:

  • Read the chapter
  • Complete smart notes
  • Complete learning connection, show you knows and talking points
  • Review the study slides
  • Pass the lesson challenge
  • Pass the quiz if applicable (some modules do not have a final quiz)
  • Pass the chapter tests if applicable (some modules do not have a final tests)

What should I do if I am in Salon Life?

We have modules created specifically for Salon Life students to complete Transcript Tests and prepare for your state tests. This is also a great time to go back to study modules that you would like to improve on.

Can I stop in the middle of a module?

If you aren't finished with a module by the end of the day, you can pause and pick up where you left off the next day/

What is Distance Learning?

Oregon has worked swiftly to find a solution for students and temporarily approved our program to offer theory hours through distant/online learning. Since this is only for theory hours, there will be no hours allocated to hands-on practice or demonstration. Due to this specification, we have broken out the number of hours our programs (Esthetics, Cosmetology, or Hair Design) would be able to receive online. Each student will be eligible for a different number of hours based on their program and schedule.  Full-time students are able to log a maximum of 35 specified theory hours and Part-time students are able to log a maximum of 22.5 specified theory hours. Distance Learning is at no additional cost to the student.  Instead it is a replacement until we are physically allowed back in school.

FAQ

How many hours can I get per week?

You will be able to clock 100% of your scheduled hours through Distance Learning if you have uncompleted modules available to you. In order for your attendance to not be affected, you will need to complete 22.5 hours a week of theory if you are a part time student or 35 hours of theory if you are full time. This time is based on the hours that each module has allocated. Once you complete the module, you will earn those associated hours. If you no longer have any modules available to you, you will be placed on an LOA until we reopen.
